Our Story
Providing Quality Care to Furry Family Members Since 1981
Lake Balboa Veterinary Care started out as a small clinic originally named the Dog & Cat Spay Neuter Clinic in October 1981. As the humble name suggests, we began by providing the basic services of spaying and neutering dogs and cats in order to provide an effective means of population control and help keep the number of homeless animals in shelters to a minimum. We have expanded our medical services slowly and recently moved into our current larger location. Although the practice has grown from a handful of clients to many more over the years, we remain committed to the founder’s original guiding philosophy: to provide compassionate and humane care for our patients and their owners.

King Moon
Veterinarian
The younger Dr. Moon received a B.S. in Environmental Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army and served as an aviation officer rated in the Blackhawk helicopter for 7 years on active duty and 3 years in the California National Guard. He is proud to have served the nation while it was fighting two wars and battling numerous conflicts across the world. He learned invaluable lessons from his various positions including being a flight platoon leader, static line jumpmaster, operations officer in a special operations task force, and mission planner for Army aviation operations on US Navy ships. Similar to his father’s service in Vietnam, King served his country with deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kuwait.
King was fortunate enough to earn a seat at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine after leaving active duty and has been practicing as a veterinarian since 2017. Upon graduation, he spent a year at VCA West Los Angeles, one of the oldest and most renowned animal specialty hospitals in the United States, seeing countless emergency cases and helping their specialists manage difficult cases. He has been practicing general medicine since 2018 and enjoys the variety of cases and continuous relationships that general practice brings. He loves being outdoors with his wife, son, daughter, and their Pug.

Karin
Office Manager
Karin joined the team in 1990. She has since become the indispensable heart of our practice. Although she started as a veterinary technician, Karin slowly transitioned into an office manager role as our clients were naturally drawn to her bright personality, patient ear, and affable smile. Karin is a tireless multi-tasking master and these days you will often find her checking in one patient, checking out another, and handling an urgent call from a distressed pet parent—all without missing a beat. Due to her deep love for science and a passion for medicine, Karin studied Animal Science at Pierce College and earned a B.S. in Cellular and Molecular Biology from CSU Northridge. Karin enjoys spending quality family time with her husband, and daughter while caring for her pack of two dogs and three cats.
